Former city dwellers trade traffic jams for trees and create an idyllic family home.

The makeover that turned a rundown 1950s property into a charming

country home

“I think it works putting unexpected things next to each other. It reflects your own personality and past experiences and makes your home so individual.”

Brielle and Andrew never saw themselves moving to the country until a weekend trip to the New South Wales' Southern Highland's town of Bowral changed everything

“We came down from Sydney for a weekend one winter and decided this was where we’d like to live. The area has a lot of charm," says Brielle.

The couple's new country home may have offered them the dream location but the property itself was rundown and riddled with asbestos. Fortunately, with Andrew being a builder and Brielle an interior designer, the 1950s build couldn't have been in better hands.

“We love to eat, cook and entertain, so I wanted a really big island bench in the kitchen—something that would make it easy to mingle with guests, and feel effortless," Brielle explains.

With a new, airy layout, dream entertainer's kitchen and blend of country and coastal-inspired furnishings, the formerly rundown property has been transformed into the dream family home.
